KALIBO, Aklan–The number of cases in the province of Aklan could surpass 1000 soon.
This, after 10 new COVID-19 infections were reported on March 9, 2021, bringing the total confirmed cases to 984—16 short of the 1,000-mark.
The highest number of 422 cases was reported in Kalibo, followed by Numancia with 110, Banga with 82, and Makato with 48.
So far, of the 984 people confirmed to have contracted the virus in Aklan, 806 have been released from quarantine facilities.
Currently, 137 people are quarantined either in a facility or at home while 11 are hospitalized.
Apart from the increase of COVID-19 active cases, the province also recorded 30 deaths from March 27, 2020, to March 9, 2021.
Meanwhile, the capital town of Kalibo has reported 18 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
It was learned that over the last seven days the province averages 15 new cases daily.
The province reported its first case of the coronavirus on March 27 last year. Since then, 66 locally stranded individuals and 10 returning overseas Filipinos have tested positive.
Health authorities are advising the public to always follow the minimum health and safety guidelines such as the wearing of face masks and face shields to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
