Boracay Island drops tourist arrivals to only 35,000 in January

For the whole month of January, only over 35,000 tourists visited the world-famous Boracay Island.

According to the Malay Tourism Office data, only 35,799 travelers visited the Island from January 1 to 31, 2022. Only an additional 5,194 tourists went to the white beach after a week from January 1 to 23.

Since the Aklan government reimposed the RT-PCR test requirement last January 9, tourist arrivals significantly dropped.

However, arrivals may increase once again as Boracay Island removed the RT-PCR test requirement for fully-vaccinated tourists yesterday, February 1, 2022.

Furthermore, the country will accept international leisure travelers starting February 10.

Below is the list of the number of visitors who arrived in Boracay per region:

TOTAL: 35, 799

Meanwhile, a total of 18,411 female tourists went to Boracay, while there were 17,388 male travelers.

As for the age groups, ages 13-59 still lead the list with 29,339, while 5,390 tourists are ages 0-12 and 1,070 travelers age 60 and up.

More visitors traveled by air than land or sea; 27,065 traveled by air, 7,962 by sea, and 7,962 by land.
