The road to recovery is drawing near for Boracay Island as more than 200,000 tourists visited the famous White Beach, and more are expected to arrive in the coming months.
According to the Malay Tourism Office data, a total of 201,368 tourists went to Boracay from May 1 to 31, a 100%+ increase from the 186,751 travelers last April.
Of the total tourist arrivals, 193,298 were domestic travelers, 3,802 were Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), and 4,268 were international travelers.
FOREIGN TOTAL: 4,268
DOMESTIC TOTAL: 193,298
OFW/OF's TOTAL: 3,802
Grand Total: 201,368
The volume of travelers is expected to increase further as the national government scrapped the pre-departure COVID-19 tests for fully-vaccinated and boosted foreigners starting May 31, 2022.
The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) has recently approved Resolution 168, exempting all fully vaccinated and boosted foreign nationals from the RT-PCR test requirement.
“The DOT sees this development as a win for the local tourism industry as welcoming more tourists in the country will yield more revenues for our MSMEs and restore more jobs and livelihoods in the sector,” said Tourism Secretary Romulo-Puyat.
