Almost 500 foreign tourists visited the shores of Boracay Island starting from March 1 to 11, 2022.
According to Malay Tourism Officer Felix Delos Santos, 498 foreign nationals went to the famous Island.
As the arrivals continued to surge, their office recorded a total of 59,109 tourist arrivals. Wherein 4,000 to 5,000 arrivals were recorded in a single day, and 30 to 60 were said to be foreign travelers.
Most of these foreigners were from cold countries who wanted to escape their countries’ freezing temperatures and experience the warmth of Boracay’s sun and feel its powdery sand.
Delos Santos also noted that the figures were still not the same as the previous years. However, the current numbers have greatly helped the Island’s tourism since the pandemic hit Boracay.
The Malay Tourism Office is hopeful for more arrivals, especially this summer season. On the other hand, Delos Santos said that foreign national arrivals are still low due to some existing travel restrictions and requirements.
PH accepts all foreign tourists from any country.
Another good news for the Philippines is that starting April 1, there will be no limit to the number of international passengers arriving in all ports of entry.
“This latest development opens the country to all fully vaccinated tourists from all countries and means the country’s tourism industry is well on its way to recovery”, Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said.
Meanwhile, under Resolution 164-A, foreign travelers and returning Filipinos are now allowed to present a negative result of antigen test, an alternate option for arriving passengers, in place of the initial requirement of a negative result of an RT-PCR test taken 48 hours before departure from the point of origin.
Based on the DOT's data as of March 9, 2022, the number of arrivals to the country's main airports has reached 76,736. Of this number, 43,249 are foreign tourists, while 33,487 are balikbayans.
