Boracay should have a separate quarantine classification from the rest of Aklan - Puyat

Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat proposed to separate the quarantine classification of the town of Malay from the province of Aklan.

This aims to prevent the more contagious Delta variant from entering the municipality of Malay and to keep the area Delta-Variant Free.

In a letter sent to Mayor Frolibar Bautista, Puyat suggested, that due to the Delta variant cases that were detected in nearby LGUs, the border controls in the town should be stricter and more tightened.

In the province of Aklan, 21 cases of Delta variant or Indian variant of Sars-CoV-2 were recorded last August 23.

The said variant has been detected in several towns in the province except, the town of Malay.

The following towns that have been recorded to have Delta variant cases are:

  • Kalibo - 5
  • Numancia - 3
  • Banga - 2
  • Ibajay - 2
  • Malinao - 2
  • Madalag - 2
  • Nabas - 1
  • Tangalan - 1
  • Makato -1

Meanwhile, according to the statement of the Aklan Provincial Health Office, 20 cases of the Delta variant in Aklan have already recovered while one, passed away.
