Boracay Tourist Arrival drops as "NCR Plus" Bubble Begins

BORACAY, Malay–After the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) announced the start of the new travel restriction in the National Capital Region "NCR plus" bubble which include Metro Manila and various provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal. Boracay's number of tourist arrivals dropped to only 228 tourists.

This is according to Malay Tourism Officer Felix Delos Santos.

Coincidently, the majority of Boracay's list of visitors from October to March is composed of tourists coming from the said provinces included in the NCR plus bubble and visitors coming from Western Visayas only came as a second.

The recently issued resolution from the IATF heavily impacted the chances of the famous island to finally recover from the losses it sustained from the pandemic.

This month of March Boracay finally managed to record an averaged of 500 tourist arrivals per day and with the saliva-test approved which is a much more affordable option. The island is expecting at least 20,000 arrivals this month. Moreover, more than 15,000 tourist arrivals have been recorded starting from March 1 to 15.

According to Delos Santos, their expected target is no less than 1,000 tourist arrivals per day this coming Holy Week. But ended up with tons of canceled flights and hotel bookings from tourists planning to visit Boracay Island next week.

Provinces inside the NCR Plus Bubble stated that only essential travels and authorized persons outside their residences are permitted to go outside the bubble starting on March 22 until April 4, 2021.
