Puyat noted that the vaccination of tourism workers in Boracay marks the initial phase of the target for having a 100 percent vaccination of all 40,000 residents and workers in the entire town of Malay.

This was achieved thanks to the combined efforts of the DOT, the NTF, Provincial Government of Aklan, LGU-Malay, PCCI-Boracay, BFI., and the Compliance Association of Boracay.

Puyat also expressed her gratitude and lauded the Filinvest Hospitality through Crimson Resort and Spa Boracay for donating a total of 5,000 doses to support the initiative.

She added that the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) had funded Php 10 million to conduct mass testing of tourism workers and frontliners on the island.

Assistance programs

Puyat disclosed that in addition to the immunization of tourism workers, the DOT would launch new tourism products for Boracay Island that are expected to attract more tourists.

The said tourism products include a Boracay Biking Tour that will showcase the scenic terrain of the island, along with the Boracay Food Crawl, a deconstructed culinary experience that features the island's iconic and diverse cuisine.

Also included is the Boracay Wellness Workation Program, which seeks to repackage the island as office space and an ideal wellness retreat destination.

Puyat also shared that packages 1 and 2 of the Boracay drainage project of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), the infrastructure arm of the DOT, were completed in December 2020.

The remaining packages are now at 58.18 percent completion, bringing the total project completion rate to 69 percent as of June 2021.
