Only over 28,000 tourists visited Boracay Island this January 1-16

As the Omicron cases continue to rise in the country, causing the return of the RT-PCR test requirement before entering Boracay Island, only over 28,000 tourists visited the white beach.

According to the Malay Tourism Office data, only 28,060 travelers went to Boracay from January 1 to 16, 2022.

On January 9, the local government of Aklan once again required tourists to present a negative RT-PCR test result before they entered the Island to curb the Omicron variant.

This lead to cancellations of bookings.

Below is the list of the number of visitors who arrived in Boracay per region:

Meanwhile, a total of 14,574 female tourists went to Boracay, while there were 13,486 male travelers.

As for the age groups, ages 13-59 still lead the list with 22,174, while 4,990 tourists are ages 0-12; however, travelers ages 60 and up dwindled to only 896.

More visitors traveled by air than land or sea; 20,231 traveled by air, 632 by sea, and 7,197 by land.
