Aklan Governor agreed that Boracay Island should have a seperate quarantine status

Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores agreed to the appeal of the municipalities of Malay to separate the quarantine status and restriction of Boracay Island from the province of Aklan.

According to the governor, the pandemic greatly affected the provincial government; that's why they understand the appeal of the stakeholders in Boracay.

He mentioned that the quarantine status implementation in the province has already eased, and tourism activities are now allowed.

Earlier they have requested the Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force to allow tourists from the National Capital Region (NCR) who are 18 years old and below as well as 65 years old and above to enter the Island.

Based on Malay Tourism Office data, those from the NCR lead the most tourist arrivals in Boracay Island.

They have also sent a letter to the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) through Secretary Francisco Duque regarding their request.

Furthermore, the provincial government ensures that one of their main priorities is the health and safety of the tourists visiting the Island.

Last August, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Puyat proposed to separate the quarantine classification of the town of Malay from the Aklan Province to prevent the highly infectious Delta Variant from entering the Island.

The Malay Tourism Office, recorded a total of 6,925 travelers visited the famous Island from October 1 to 10, wherein most came from the  NCR.
