DOT appeals to the LGU to defer payments and provide incentives to tourism-related businesses

Department of Tourism Assistant Secretary Roberto Alabado III, appeals the local government units to defer payments and taxes or provide incentives to tourism-related businesses in their locality as the tourism industry is suffering due to the pandemic.

Reiterating the appeal of Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, Alabado request the LGU to provide incentives and cooperate to help in the recovery of tourism-related businesses.

"They have been giving you a lot of taxes in the past two to three decades and this is the time when we should support them so that they will continue to provide our LGUs with the financial support through taxation in the future," Alabado said.

Alabado said, The people working in the tourism industry are concerned about the difficulties to continue on operating amidst the pandemic due to mounting of financial burdens.

He added, "that's what we are appealing. If we're going to recover, we recover together—the national government agencies, the local government units, and the private sector. Let's all work together to provide the needed life support for our tourism industry."
