Different agencies and organizations cooperated to launch a way to reawaken the wanderlust among Filipinos amidst the COVID-19 pandemic by returning an online travel show, GPSTV, with more experiential travels episodes.
According to the Facebook page of GPSTV, it is a coordinated initiative of the Hotel Sales and Marketing Association, in partnership with the Department of Tourism and the Tourism Promotions Board, to navigate through new ways of experiencing & promoting local tourism.
"[The goal is] to entice people to go for safe travels and provide new ways of experiencing and promoting tourism during this pandemic," Hotel Sales and Marketing Association (HSMA) president Benjie Martinez said at a recent virtual press conference in a report by ABS-CBN.
The theme for the GPSTV Season Two is "Go Safe, Go Travel: Walk and Talk With Us," wherein the episodes approaches a more in-depth experiential travel.
"We say 'walk and talk' because it is precisely what season 2 will bring. Exciting journeys to share and talk about," HSMA vice president Loleth So said.
Aside from that, this November, a one-hour special episode will be shown on cable television.
So said, the project's ultimate goal is to jumpstart the tourism industry, one of the sectors that were greatly affected by the pandemic.
"Today, as the Philippines begins to cautiously emerge from lockdown, the tourism industry that accounts for about 12.8% of the national GDP is looking towards the new travel normally," she said.
"Our host Kevin Lapena will take our viewers on a journey to various excellent travel destinations to experience gastronomic and cultural adventures, leisure and business travel and even plan for a milestone event when it is finally allowed," So added.
With this, the project will promote the enjoyment and pleasures of tourism, but more importantly, it will highlight that travel can be safe and worry-free.
GPSTV Season 2 will have three main segments:
Walk 1, which is a gastronomic and cultural experience around the Philippines.
Walk 2 will cover city staycations, extended business stays, corporate meetings, and milestone social events.
Walk 3, which will showcase grand vacations in beach and adventure destinations.
"GPS TV season 1 and 2 really hope to refuel the appetite of domestic tourists to travel again through taking in mind all the safety protocols," HSMA chair Margie Munsayac said, according to the report of PhilStar.
