On the re-opening of the Intramuros sites, Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat paid a visit to Baluarte de San Diego on Thursday, September 16.
The Department’s decision to partially re-open three Intramuros sites following the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) placed the National Capital Region (NCR) under Alert Level 4 from September 16 to 30, 2021.
Meanwhile, Puyat continues to push for the lifting of age restrictions on fully-vaccinated leisure travelers.
Though, she expressed her happiness that under the Alert Level 4 in the NCR, its residents aged 18 to 65 can finally go outside their homes and enjoy the open-air spaces with lush greenery such as the Walled City of Intramuros.
Despite several weeks of closure to visitors, Puyat said that the DOT and the Intramuros Administration (IA) wisely used this time and prioritized the vaccination of Intramuros, including its outsourced security and janitorial workers.
She also joyfully shared that as of September 14, 99% of the workers in Intramuros have already completed their vaccination against COVID-19.
Puyat also disclosed that according to National Task Force Against Covid-19 (NTF) Deputy Chief Implementer Secretary Vince Dizon, more vaccines are expected to arrive in the country in the next few weeks.
With this, Puyat said that she is optimistic that the DOT can attain its target to vaccinate 100% of the country’s tourism workers before the holiday season.
