BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Tops most of the list for many Filipino people wanting to visit as the city government eased their travel restrictions.
Aloysius Mapalo, the City tourism operations, recently receive about 2,558 travel requests from their digital registration portal visita.baguio.gov.ph since March 2.
Coincidently on the same day, the mayor of Baguio Benjamin Magalong declared that swab testing and quarantine is no longer a requirement every visitors need to undergo through, as well as presenting their travel authority.
There is currently a 5,140 registration posted last Tuesday. This weekend, about 3,000 travelers expected to visit Baguio City, according to Mapalo.
“While we are receiving more travel requests through Baguio VISITA registrations, the surge is not even half of our previous tourist arrivals. It will take time to pick up, and we may see larger numbers toward the Holy Week... if we continue with the entry guidelines,” he said.
Before the pandemic started, the city was able to receive 20,000 people during the normal weekdays and about 100,000 during their peak season.
