MANILA – According to Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, the travel restriction has been lifted for passengers coming from 30 countries known to have cases of the new Covid-19 variant.
"Yung dati nating status quo bago nagkaroon ng mga travel ban, restrictions sa iba't ibang bansa ay babalik po tayo sa status quo na 'yun' ," Nograles said.
Since the cases for the UK variant in different countries are rising, the Philippine Government has narrowed down the number of travelers arriving in the country.
"Hindi ibig sabihin ang turista ay maari nang pumasok dito, hindi po. Yun lamang may visas na existing at valid," Nograles noted.
Nograles explained that this doesn't mean that tourists are now allowed to enter. But only those who have valid and existing visas.
Furthermore, depending on the available capacity of quarantine facilities, several restrictions or suspensions will be imposed on passengers arriving.
"Anytime na tingin po natin, yung Bureau ng Immigration at Bureau of Quarantine, na medyo hindi na makakaya ng ating capacity to accept foreign nationals ay puwede po tayong magsuspendi muli," he added.
Only foreign nationals with valid and existing visas and former Filipino nationals qualified under the Balik Bayan program are allowed to enter the Philippines, according to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF).
In addition to that, passengers must have a pre-booked accommodation in an accredited quarantine hotel or facility for at least one week. And they must undergo a Covid-19 swab test on the sixth day after their arrival.
