Boracay is set to make a significant move towards inclusivity with the opening of a beach dedicated to Muslim women on September 10. This initiative is expected to enhance the island’s reputation as a welcoming and diverse travel destination.
The private cove, which will be located within one of Boracay’s mixed-use leisure and resort developments, will offer a safe and comfortable environment for Muslim women to enjoy the beach. The development also houses one of the hotels in the Philippines that has previously obtained a Halal kitchen certification, ensuring that guests can enjoy halal-certified food and beverages during their stay.
Tourism Undersecretary for Muslim Affairs Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that while some Muslims are comfortable swimming in public, others prefer a more private setting. She added that the availability of a dedicated beach will provide more options for Muslim tourists and enhance their overall experience in Boracay.
Valderrosa-Abubakar also revealed that the idea for the Muslim-dedicated beach was suggested by foreign diplomats based in the Philippines, as well as the Malaysian and Brunei ambassadors. This shows the growing interest in making Boracay a more inclusive destination for Muslim travelers.
In line with President Bongbong Marcos’ commitment to promoting halal and Islamic traditions in the Philippines, the National Tourism Development Plan for 2023-2028 includes making the country more Muslim-friendly as one of its key objectives. The opening of the Muslim-dedicated beach in Boracay is a significant step towards achieving this goal and further strengthening the Philippines’ position as a diverse and welcoming tourist destination.
This new beach is not only a testament to Boracay’s commitment to inclusivity but also an opportunity for the local community to learn more about different cultures and traditions. It is expected to attract more Muslim tourists to the island, boosting the local economy and promoting cultural exchange.
Overall, the opening of the Muslim-dedicated beach in Boracay on September 10 is a positive development that will benefit both tourists and the local community. It is a step towards creating a more inclusive and welcoming travel environment in the Philippines.
