The Municipality of Malay, home to the world-renowned Boracay Island, welcomed officials and representatives from the City Government of Butuan for a benchmarking activity on the successful implementation of the LGU-Malay E-Trike program.
The visit, which will be conducted from October 12-15, 2024, aimed to glean insights into the operational model and regulatory framework of the E-Trike program, with a view to possible replication in Butuan City.
The Butuan City delegation, comprising personnel from the City Transportation & Traffic Management Department and various tricycle cooperatives, met with Malay Mayor Frolibar S. Bautista and other key LGU officials in Malay.
The delegation sought to understand the program’s intricacies, including the selection process for E-Trike suppliers, the management of cooperatives, and the regulatory framework that ensures smooth operations.
The visit was facilitated by the Malay Tourism Office (MTrO), which provided assistance and guidance to the delegation.
SB Member Dante Pagsuguiron, who played a key role in conceptualizing the E-Trike program in Malay, shared valuable insights into its development.
The delegation also engaged with accredited E-Trike suppliers, including KFD Company Kor-E, and BEMAC (Motor Ace) , as well as the Boracay LGU Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (BLTMPC), to gain a comprehensive understanding of the program’s various facets.
The benchmarking activity is expected to provide invaluable knowledge and experience to the City Government of Butuan, assisting them in developing a similar E-Trike program that promotes sustainable transportation and reduces carbon emissions in their city.
