AirAsia Philippines Designates NAIA Terminal 2 as New Domestic Hub, Enhancing Passenger Experience from July 2023

Starting July 1, 2023, AirAsia Philippines, a leading low-cost carrier, will shift all its domestic flight operations to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2, which it is setting up as its new “Manila domestic hub.” The airline will continue to manage international flights from NAIA Terminal 3.

Previously operating domestic flights at NAIA Terminals 3 and 4, AirAsia Philippines plans to leverage NAIA Terminal 2’s 20 check-in counters and four online check-in kiosks located in the terminal’s south wing.

Ricky Isla, CEO of AirAsia Philippines, views this transfer as a strategic move, citing the increased space and enhanced airport service that passengers can now expect. Isla asserts that despite the change in terminal building, the world-class service standard of AirAsia will remain consistent. The CEO also sees this as an opportunity to further expand domestic routes and capacity.

The relocation of domestic flights to NAIA Terminal 2 aligns with the Manila International Airport Authority’s (MIAA) Schedule and Terminal Assignment Rationalization (STAR) initiative, which is geared towards easing congestion at NAIA Terminal 4.

Bryan Co, MIAA’s officer-in-charge, believes that this move will greatly benefit AirAsia passengers and potentially boost local tourism. He further emphasizes that passengers can look forward to more room, enhanced safety, and improved accessibility at Terminal 2, reflecting MIAA’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the overall guest experience at NAIA.
