New Pickleball Court Opens in Boracay, Fuels Sports Tourism Ambitions

Get ready to serve, volley, and rally! Boracay has a new game in town, and it’s setting its sights on becoming the next big sports tourism destination.

Masey’s Pickleball Boracay, the province’s first pickleball court, officially opened its doors to the public at Citymall Boracay this Saturday, September 21, 2024.

The grand opening featured a free pickleball clinic, attracting both locals and tourists eager to experience this fast-growing sport.

“Pickleball has been around [for quite some time], popular na rin sa Maynila, and siyempre, naisip natin, bakit hindi natin dalhin sa Boracay?,” shared Bong Tirol, who oversees the facility.

According to their official Instagram Account, Masey’s is open from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. Meanwhile, Maggie Tirol replied in some Facebook queries that for 400Php, you can enjoy playing in a court, which can accommodate two persons, for two hours. For those who wants more information, you can contact their IG account for updates.

The two new courts, which meets international standards, are ready to cater to professional players seeking to keep their game sharp while on vacation, and also offer a unique opportunity for locals and tourists to experience the exciting sport.

“This is in line also with the thrust ng local government natin to promote sports tourism and destination,” Tirol added, highlighting the potential of pickleball to become a major draw for visitors to Boracay.

Malay Mayor Floribar Bautista echoed this sentiment, encouraging Aklanons and visitors to embrace the sport while enjoying their vacation on the island.

What is Pickleball?

This popular sport, gaining traction in the Philippines, combines elements of badminton, tennis, and ping pong. It’s easy to learn but challenging to master, making it appealing to players of all ages and skill levels.

With the addition of this new pickleball facility, Boracay is poised to become a hotspot for sports enthusiasts, offering another exciting option for vacationers looking for active pursuits beyond the beach.

This new court could be the key to unlocking a new era of sports tourism for the island, attracting athletes and recreational players alike.
