NextGen Advocate Foundation PH, Inc. (NextGen), a non-stock, non-government organization focused on sustainable community development through tourism, has raised a significant P30 million to power its revitalization project for the Walled City of Intramuros.
This investment reflects the growing recognition of tourism’s critical role in the Philippines’ economic resurgence, particularly in the wake of the pandemic.
The tourism sector has emerged as a key driver of the Philippine economy, contributing nearly 9% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023 and employing 6.21 million Filipinos. The sector’s direct growth value added (TDGVA) surged by 48% in 2023, registering the highest growth since 2000.
NextGen’s commitment to revitalizing Intramuros, a historic landmark, aligns with this positive trajectory.
In partnership with the Intramuros Administration and the Office of First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, NextGen aims to transform the Walled City into a vibrant cultural hub, drawing visitors to experience the country’s rich history and cultural legacy.
This initiative, supported by a dedicated group of advocates including business leaders, community members, and philanthropists, was fueled by the Play it Forward fundraising golf tournament. The event, held recently at the Sta. Elena Golf Club in Cabuyao, Laguna, drew 180 golfers and raised over P30 million in donations.
“Our mission at NextGen is to help build an inclusive future where every young Filipino is empowered to reach their full potential and contribute to a sustainable and progressive nation,” said NextGen President Nadia Mirani Uttamchandani.
This significant investment in Intramuros reflects NextGen’s belief in the power of tourism to drive economic growth and community development.
