President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has declared that the Office of the President will grant each athlete who represented the Philippines in the #2024ParisOlympics a reward of PhP 1 million.
Encouraging more support for the athletes, he has urged the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation to match this amount.
Meanwhile, the country continues the jubilation for the remarkable achievements of Filipino athletes at the recently concluded Paris 2024 Olympics.
The country’s sports heroes are welcomed back at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City on the evening of August 13, 2024, marking the commencement of the ‘Pagbibigay Dangal: A Heroes’ Welcome Celebration for the Philippines’ Paris 2024 Olympians.’
As the athletes arrive, they are greeted warmly by their families and loyal supporters for proudly representing the Philippines on the global sports stage.
Subsequently, they proceed to Malacañan Palace for a personal reception by the First Family headed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., setting the stage for a heartfelt and meaningful celebration at the Ceremonial Hall.
During the event, President Marcos Jr. honors all the athletes who took part in the Olympic Games with the Presidential Citation. Noteworthy mentions include Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas, who secured bronze medals in women’s boxing, commended for embodying the Olympic values of excellence, respect, and friendship.
Carlos Edriel Yulo is presented with the prestigious Presidential Medal of Merit in acknowledgment of his historic dual victories in the men’s floor exercise and vault events, securing the Philippines’ first-ever Olympic gold medals in artistic gymnastics at the Paris Olympics. He is also granted a reward of PhP 20 million.
With an impressive four medals attained, the Philippines achieved its highest-ever ranking, placing 37th overall at the 2024 Paris Olympics, surpassing its medal count from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
This exceptional performance reflects the country’s rising prowess in the realm of international sports and sets a new benchmark for future athletic aspirations.
